"Who can change the world without me?"
- Ivenson, youth delegate from Haiti
The New Orleans delegation is an amazing example of a community coming together to rebuild and move forward. The team recently commemorated the fifth anniversary of Hurricane Katrina, and are currently finishing Not Meant to Live Like This, a collaborative book recounting the struggles, efforts, and partnerships of families living in poverty before, during, and after Katrina. The Tapori network has kept in contact with many of the children involved who were dispersed by Katrina, and more have joined. They will share their ways of including everyone and leaving no one behind, in school and through events and gatherings. In addition, the Play and Learn Together program supports young parents, many who were involved in Tapori as children, as they strive to give their own children the best possible start in life. The program was developed collaboratively, based on the aspirations the parents have for their children, and is an inspiring example of young people applying their own experiences in Tapori to improve the lives of others.
