It Takes a Child to Raise a Village: International Assembly Boston Delegation

One of the main strengths of the Fourth World team in Boston has been its connection to the Center for Social Policy at UMass Boston. Delegates have shared their firsthand experience of poverty and social exclusion with researchers and academics and have had an impact on the creation of poverty policy through the Reshaping Poverty Policy Series. Events with the Center for Social Poverty have also included artwork and messages from children involved in the Tapori network in the area. The children from a local family shelter also recently completed an art exhibition exploring their idea of “what you need to have a happy, healthy community,” and they will share their answer at the Oct. 17 assembly. At the exhibition, one parent commented that “The President and people out in our community [should see these drawings]. It’s always hard to hear the truth, but it comes from a child honestly.”
