"Who can change the world without me?"
- Ivenson, youth delegate from Haiti
The Appalachian delegation will share the story of a group of disparate people that have come together around a common cause to improve the community, fight poverty, and build the future of their children. The Appalachian Learning Cooperative is the cornerstone of these efforts: it is a place where computer skills and quilting classes are taught side-by-side, a space where people can be both teachers and students. Through the Learning Cooperative, the exchange of knowledge and skills is mutual and this under-resourced community that often receives outside support now has a platform to share their own expertise and experience in return. The children in Appalachia have been involved in the Tapori network for about five years, and they will teach us great deal at the assembly about how their community came together around its children, a better future, and a connection to the wider world.
